commitment and surrender

I always seem to hold on to a key phrase every time I sit down in my car and put on a Furtick podcast.

This was from one of his guests, the worship pastor who lead worship for the Billy Graham Crusades for 50 years. He had this to say:

Commitment is dependent on you, but surrender is dependent on God. (paraphrased)

When you commit to something, you decide how much time and money you want to invest. It’s up to you.

But when you surrender, effectively your life is in the hands of the person you’re surrendering to. You have no say.
